Policy Statement: This policy establishes the work and rest expectations for live-in caregivers in compliance with New York State Department of Labor regulations. The caregiver is entitled to sufficient rest periods, including designated sleep and personal time, to ensure their well-being while providing high-quality care to clients. Scope: This policy applies to all live-in caregivers employed by Sara Companions Home Care Services. Please initial that you have read the policy.

Work and Rest Requirements: 1. 24-Hour Work Period: o Live-in caregivers may be scheduled to work shifts lasting up to 24 hours. During this period, the caregiver is responsible for providing care and assistance to the client as needed. Initial here.

2. Sleep Period: o For every 24-hour shift, caregivers are permitted up to at least 8 hours of sleep, of which 5 hours must be consecutive and uninterrupted. The sleep period is unpaid. o If a caregiver is unable to get 5 consecutive hours of sleep due to client needs or emergencies, they must notify their supervisor immediately for proper documentation and adjustment. 3. Personal Time: o Caregivers are also entitled to up to 3 hours of personal time during each 24-hour work period. This time may be used for meals, rest, or other personal activities, as long as the client’s needs are covered during these periods. Personal time is unpaid. o The exact timing of personal time will be coordinated with the client or their family, and the caregiver's supervisor to ensure care continuity. Initial here.

4. Record-Keeping and Reporting: o Caregivers are required to accurately report their working hours, sleep time, and personal time. o If any part of the required rest periods (sleep or personal time) is interrupted or shortened due to client needs, caregivers must document these interruptions and/or notify their supervisor immediately for proper review and resolution. Acknowledgment and Compliance: Caregivers must review and understand this policy before starting a live-in assignment. Failure to adhere to these rest and sleep requirements may result in disciplinary action. Each caregiver is required to sign the acknowledgment below to confirm they have read, understood, and agree to comply with this policy. Initial here.

Caregiver Acknowledgment: I have read and understand the above policy regarding my entitlement to sleep and personal time during 24-hour work periods as a live-in caregiver. I understand that I am required to notify my supervisor if I do not receive the required sleep or personal time, and I agree to comply with the reporting requirements outlined in this policy.
